What is Jiu Jitsu?

Jiu jitsu is life for me now, I am travelling the world, training, competing, meeting lots of cool people, It’s been the best thing for me, it changed my life for the best.   Another way of looking at it is it’s like a cult, it’s like a cult for sure, it’s like a little church that we do, like a church session but we do it every day.

How did you get into it?

I tried when I was kid, back in brazil. My coach left the gym to go to the UFC, and so I left as well, so I went and did Judo, and didn’t stick with that.  I came to NZ from Brazil, when I was a bit older and I met some friends, who trained bjj and they were like you’re Brazilian, you should do Jiu Jitsu, and I was like not really, I don’t do it.  I had another go at it, and just didn’t stick then either.  Then, two years after that,  I went back to it and did one class and it finally stuck, I was like this pretty cool and have been at it ever since.

Is there something Bjj Has taught you?

Resilience, I think it teaches you to just keep going no matter what, you can always go one more round, one more day.
