What is Jiu Jitsu?
It’s a martial art, where you can defend yourself and control another person, but what is powerful about bjj, is in an altercation, you have an option, to hurt your opponent or not. So, you get to decide.
The first time I heard about it, it was referred to as, the gentle art. It’s like a chess game. You must use strategy, and you set up movements, that lead to other movements. You need to think a lot, it’s not all about how strong you are, but the techniques you can do on the mat. It is always entertaining for the mind, it’s a puzzle, and every roll has its own puzzle, that you need to solve, or you are missing a piece and so you need to add that to keep going. Jiu jitsu is a way you can practice thinking clearly in difficult, dangerous situations.
Why Bjj?
The main reasons I do martial arts is because of the peace..
When you when you know how to handle yourself and you know how to respond, you can relax. I feel relaxed. Even if I know a guy is trying to be abusive to me and is screaming, you don’t have to respond and can be at peace, because you can say, man, it's not worth it, I know I can respond violently, but I can choose not to.
